A medical marijuana manufacturer is making plans to move into a building in Smiths Falls that used to house chocolate maker Hershey, media reports said.

Ottawa-based company Tweed Inc. has taken possession of part of the 170,000 square-foot facility formerly owned by the chocolate giant in the hopes of having an operation running by April 2014, the reports said.
The company would first need to approval from the federal government before turning the facility into a medical marijuana grow-op.
Reports said Tweed has hired Ottawa-based company Dolyn Development Inc. to retrofit part of the property, which is valued at $4.9 million.
Hershey was the main employer in Smiths Falls until 2008, when it shut down its operations. The municipality has never since been able to attract another large tenant that would be able to make up for the lost jobs.
