Shanghai
Kind of miss Shanghai.
I recently paid a visit home and took some videos. When I showed to my friends of Shanghai at night, there were lots of "whoa", "nice", "great". Shanghai is get more and more beautiful, day and night, if not just the same old city in my memory.
One thing new about Shanghai is now there are hundreds of thousands migrants in Shanghai. They are every where, selling the vegetables, selling small home appliances, delivering milk, babysitting, housekeeping, doing your namecards, couriers, etc. Almost half of Shanghai families have one "ahyi" (maid), slowly becoming part of the family. Shanghainese start to feel the inconvenience taking crowded buses or subways or going shopping. But they feel the biggest inconvenience when these migrants were home for the Chinese new year. No milk, no fresh veggies, no babysitting, nowhere to buy good and cheap household stuff......
My point is, migration (or immigration, in our case) is always a good and bad thing. The city is enjoying her developing both in hardware and software. People from different background are understanding each other. There is no reason, to look down upon anyone, not Shanghainese to any migrants, or any non-Shanghainese to Shanghainese. I don't like the recent posts of those anti-Shanghainese for no reason. If the people in the city thousands of miles from here under a system we have always complained about can at least understand each other, why some of us still want to challenge these stupid argument? Especially we have all immigrated to a new country, new city hoping to start a good life.
There is nothing wrong with Shanghai or Shanghainese, it just another city, with good and bad people living in it, generous and stingy, hero or coward, smart and dumb. So let it be it.
Just some thoughts. No intention to offend anyone. Let's stop any offensive language with no sound ground.
