Rogers cell phone service down across Canada
Rogers cell phone service is down from British Columbia to Newfoundland. Voice and data services are either not working or working intermittently according to reports from across the country.
Rogers cell phone service is down from British Columbia to Newfoundland and the company has no idea when it will be fully restored.
The wireless outage includes voice and some SMS services across the country, according to Jennifer Kett, the senior manager of media relations with the company. Data services are not affected.
“We are investigating the root cause and services are gradually resuming,” Kett wrote in an email Wednesday night. “At this time we do not have an estimate as to when full service will be restored.”
Rogers phones are reported not to be working in cities including Vancouver, Kelowna, Calgary, Saskatoon, Regina, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Ottawa, Toronto, Montreal, St. John's and Halifax.
“We are still experiencing service interruptions in some areas and we encourage customers to use a wireline telephone if they need to reach emergency services,” wrote Kett.
Shawn Hall, a Telus spokesman, said the problem appears to be with the Rogers network across Canada. While it doesn't directly affect the Telus network, Telus customers are unable to reach people who have Rogers subscriptions.
"It appears to have been down for a couple of hours," he said. "It is not our network. Our system is fine. But anyone trying to reach a Rogers customer won't be able to do so."
