Alert Details
Snowfall Warning
Issued at 5:10 AM EST Tuesday 26 November 2013
Summary
First snowstorm of the season tonight and Wednesday.
Details
A low pressure system just southeast of New Orleans is beginning to track northeast and is expected to intensify into a winter storm as it moves up along the Eastern Seaboard of the United States tonight and into New England on Wednesday. Eastern Ontario will be close enough to the track of this winter storm to receive a significant snowfall tonight and Wednesday. The snow will rapidly move into areas near the St Lawrence and Lake Ontario early this evening. It may initially fall as rain or a rain-wet snow mix near Lake Ontario and the St Lawrence then will turn over to all snow overnight as brisk northerly winds develop and pump in colder air from the Arctic. Some brief freezing rain is possible in the Cornwall and Prescott - Russell areas overnight into Wednesday morning. The snow will end from west to east later on Wednesday as the storm centre moves into Eastern Quebec. Driving conditions are expected to deteriorate quickly beginning this evening as the snow moves in. Motorists should be prepared for hazardous winter driving conditions due to very low visibility in snow and local blowing snow and rapidly accumulating snow on untreated roads. Travel plans should be adjusted accordingly. Please refer to your local public forecast for further details.
