Advertisement for Summer Student Position
Position: Social Researcher - 12 weeks, 35 hours per week.
Duties:
· The social researcher will assist with research related to the local labour market, youth unemployment, under-employment and the transition from school to work
· Tasks may include: developing statistical profiles based on government data, designing and conducting surveys, designing and conducting interviews or focus groups, analyzing qualitative information, assisting with videography or other participatory research methods, writing reports or fact sheets, preparing web or social media content, preparing and or giving presentations on the issues, helping to organize community meetings, working with youth on a broader participatory research project.
· The student will also collaborate with other community programs and other staff and volunteers currently working on labour market issues.
· Written work will be in either English or French
Requirements:
· Ability to work with statistics and / or knowledge of community based social research methodologies
· Capacity to work independently or in a group and to collaborate on a project
· Proven ability to work in a professional and respectful manner with the public
· Knowledge of social issues, particularly labour market issues, multiculturalism and diversity, immigration, poverty and / or exclusion
· Strong organizational skills
· Strong computer skills (Excel, Word, Access, Publisher, email)
· Relevant education or equivalent personal experience
Assets
· Experience with data analysis or management
· Experience with participatory action research
· Experience working with youth
· Bilingual French / English or English / non-official language
· A background in community development, economics, working with youth, journalism, social work, sociology, psychology or criminology.

Salary: $13.50 per hour
Terms: June 9 to August 29, 2014, 35 hour per week

- have completed a previous year of full-time studies
- be between 15 and 30 years of age
- be legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations
