Mayor Watson looks forward to working with Liberal government

Mayor Jim Watson is already reminding the new majority Liberal government of its promises.
The mayor kicked off a pre-election controversy after Progressive Conservative leader Tim Hudak said his party would not fund the second phase of light rail transit expansion.
On Thursday Watson applauded the Liberals with one hand, while waving his wish list in the other.
Watson said the government had committed to helping Ottawa with phase two of LRT when the city puts the application for funding in, which is expected to happen late in 2015 or early in 2016.
The mayor said he looked forward to working with Premier Kathleen Wynne.
“They understand cities and I’m obviously relieved that were going to have a willing partner to continue cleaning up the Ottawa River and expanding light rail to the east, to the west and to the south,” Watson said.
When asked what he will do if they back out of their promise, Watson said he would be disappointed.
Like many in Ontario, Watson said he was not predicting a majority government.
The mayor noted that Hudak made a few errors during his campaign, especially in his plan to cut 100,000 public sector jobs.
