A Bay loss prevention officer suffered a superficial stab wound after being attacked in a washroom at the St. Laurent Shopping Centre.
Ottawa police said the loss prevention officer was patrolling the store when he went into the washroom and was attacked.
“He was on routine patrol,” said Ottawa police Const. Michelle Lacroix. “He goes in to check and the next thing he knows he is stabbed in the back.”
The stabbing occurred in a second-floor washroom near the furniture department at about 1:30 p.m. The 22-year-old man was treated by paramedics at the scene before being taken to hospital with minor injuries.
Ottawa police said they have yet to identify the suspect. However, officers are reviewing store surveillance footage.
It is not known why the loss prevention officer was stabbed.
The manager of the store declined to comment.
