Both Harper and the Ontario Liberals have been operating out of the same economic climate. While Harper has succeeded in balancing the budget and generating a surplus of billions of dollars that will enable him to reduce our taxes again and pour money into infrastructure, in stark contrast, the Liberals deficit is 68% higher than the combined deficits for all of Canada including the federal government. Before the Liberals took office, Ontario's credit rating was a triple A. It has since been downgraded twice and Moody’s continues to have Ontario under a serious credit watch. Although Drummond advised the Liberals to reduce their reckless spending by 17% in order to balance the books by 2017, the Liberals continue to spend.
The Liberal debt is rising at a rate of almost 1 billion a month, 226 million a week, 32 million a day and almost 1.5 million an hour. The current annual deficit is not 10.9 billion as the Liberals would have you believe but has grown from 12.5 to 12.9 billion. As well, the Liberals have 68% more debt than all the rest of Canada combined including the federal government.
The debt was 139 billion in 2003 and, after 10 years under the Liberals, the debt in 2013 was 273 billion. Today, the debt is 288 billion and the total debt is to reach almost 338 billion by 2016/17. Ontario went from being the economic engine of Canada to being the most deficit-ridden province in the country, to having a ‘have-not’ status for the first time in Canadian history, to having the highest youth unemployment rate for 11 years and to having one of the highest overall unemployment rates for 8 years. In the meantime, Harper has brought down our unemployment rate to the lowest it’s been in 40 years and it would be even lower if not for Ontario dragging down the rest of Canada. If elected, you will pay more Liberal taxes only to watch Trudeau ruin Canada the same way the Liberals ruined Ontario.
