I worked at Information Carleton in my first year, for $8/hr my duties included answering questions on the phone and in person, posting new ads and taking off old ones in the tunnels. I got the job by just walking up to the coordinator and asking if she's hiring. I tried to get jobs at the gym and the library but those spaces always fill up rapidly. You may have a better chance asking the food court or the residence cafeteria. I know that a couple of international students before got dish-washing jobs at the cafeteria. Be creative, go to ITV at Tory, career services, or your faculty for possible administration positions. I remember getting a tip from a friend and applied to work for an Economics professor, basically I typed up his papers and replied his emails, and the pay was pretty ok at $14/hr.
