actually, if we want a party or some activities, we can organize by ourselves, not depend them, right?sometimes, they are busy, or have to pay attention on their studies,~
for example, boys can play basketball together on weekends
if boys want, dont you come to lees ave on weekend, either Saturday or Sunday,
there is a basketball place outside the appartment and close to school~~
my friends always play there~~
if you want, come and join~~
aosl, girls can cheer~~~
Your idea of self-organized is good. However, registered organization can do much more than small party and sports.
In another school, I worked for such events before. News letter is common for announcing activities. There are usually serveral key events every year:
Starts from new students pick-up, temporary living place arrangement. Followed by a welcome party and new member registration and introduction of the organization, committee to new members. Usually around the Moon Festival.
The next thing will be the spring festival party.
And there is always a party for new committee election(in the welcome party or the good-bye party).
Other likely activities:
weekend Sports, Kara-Oke, dancing parties are common activities.(they are sub-groups underneath the organization.)
Culture events like international week. (food, display, performance, etc)
Small Olympics( sports game with other countries' student organization)
Soccer, basket ball games between different schools)
If they use school facility for big party, they might be able to apply for money for room and equipment renting from the school student council, because Chinese student organization is almost the biggest group on campus ( and school collected student fee from them) if more than half of chinese students registered. I had got money from school twice when I was one of the member in another school.
Be a committee member is not easy. People only see what's at front. They don't know how much you need to do in behind. I always appreciate those students who come out to help and organize activities, small or big.
I don't know what they are going to this year here. I don't even know who's the chair and how many people in their committe. I think they are going to annouce it soon. I wish they succeed in the new academic year.( for their volunter working as well as their school works.)
Well, you might not agree with me. I think new students are usually those who need helps and information. I just come here as a new comer myself, although no longer a student.
Sorry to put so much non-chinese here. I can't type chinese in my computer, yet.
Cheer!
