Police issue more than 500 tickets in week-long post-break school blitz

Ottawa police traffic officers handed out 504 tickets in a four-day school-zone blitz as kids headed back to school after March break.

Police announced the results Friday of the campaign hunting down motorists who speed, fail to yield to pedestrians and school crossings, don’t obey crossing guards or school bus signs or are distracted behind the wheel.

They turned up some doozies shared in eye-catching Twitter posts, like the G2 driver going 127 km/h in 60 zone who lost his driver’s license for a week while his mom’s car was impounded or the 29-year-old driver who was also charged with stunt driving for going 120 km/h in 50 km/h school zone on Walkley Road.
