A transport driver has been charged with dangerous driving as police work to identify four people who died after the car they were travelling in burst into flames in a multi-vehicle crash on Highway 401 in Kingston early Thursday.

It happened at about 1:30 a.m. on the westbound 401 between Joyceville Road and Highway 15.

The OPP report that Dunhill Tabanao, 37, of Vaudreuil-Dorion, Que. is charged with four counts of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death and two counts of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm.

The collision involved seven vehicles, including four tractor-trailer units, a commercial truck believed to be an armoured transport and two passenger vehicles, one of which became fully engulfed with fire.

The occupants of the car died at the scene.

Two others, a tractor-trailer driver and the commercial truck driver, were seriously injured and taken to hospital in Kingston.

Tabanao was arrested at the scene and held for a bail hearing in Kingston.
