The Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is asking for public assistance in locating an apparently injured Rottweiler after the dog’s owner fled with the animal.

Last Thursday, an OSPCA officer visited a home in the Hintonburg area to investigate a concern about a dog in distress.

“The dog was wearing a service dog vest, but we’re not able to verify it was a service dog,” said Bonnie Bishop, a senior inspector with the OSPCA.

The officer found a “thin Rottweiler-type dog that was not bearing weight on her right hind leg,” according to a news release issued on Tuesday.

The owner was then ordered under the Ontario SPCA Act to have the canine examined by a veterinarian.

“A warrant was obtained to verify compliance with the Orders and remove the dog, if necessary,” said a senior spokeswoman with the OSPCA over email.

When the owner refused to co-operate, Ottawa police were called and the owner fled with the dog.

On Friday, the duo was last seen travelling on foot in the Hintonburg area near Wellington Street and Pinhey? Street at around 4:15 p.m.

The dog, which answers to the name Lucy, is black-and-tan in colouring, has a swollen right hind leg and had difficulty walking. It was last seen wearing a red “service dog” vest.

The owner is described as a 28-year-old woman, approximately five-feet-four-inches tall, weighing 170 pounds. She has long black hair, a piercing on her right eyebrow and was last seen wearing black Spandex-type capri pants, a black shirt and black mesh gloves.

“Our main concern is the well-being of the dog,” said OSPCA’s Bishop.

Anyone with information about the location of Lucy is urged to contact 310-SPCA (7722).
