Let's extend our "conceptual room test" a bit further to something more like typical (not ending unit) townhouses:
House A: Backyard facing South East, with kitchen, breakfast area, family room all on this side.
House B: Backyard facing North West, with kitchen, breakfast area, family room all on this side.
In a sunny day, House A will have kitchen, breakfast area, and family room all lit up until 2:30-3:00pm, then these areas become dark. This means that no matter the season, you will always feel your house is dark after you've finished your work and be back home.
House B will be quite different: its kitchen, breakfast area, and family room will remain dark until 2:30-3:00pm. In winter these areas will become bright for only 2-3 hours after then, but in summer they will be lit until 8-9pm. So most of the year after you come home, your most popular living areas will remain bright, and save hydro bills for you.
How about in weekends or during those rare time that you stay at home for a whole day? Then in House A you will enjoy breakfast in bright sunlight, which will certainly make you feel better. Unfortunately if you read in the family room or work in the kitchen, you will notice that they all get darker and darker, until after 3pm you are forced to turn on the lights! Certainly it will not have a positive effect on your mood. On the contrary, In House B you will feel not so cheered up in the morning, but things get much better later, and you probably will have a brighter memory of the whole day.
不太理解为什么你认为后院朝北比东北还好?东北朝向的房间一早就有阳光,而且厨房早晨阳光明媚,心情好。朝北的不见阳光好在哪儿呢?
