The union representing nearly 850 striking Carleton University support staff, library and administrative staff tweeted Saturday evening that contract talks would resume on Monday.

“CUPE 2424 and the employer have agreed to resume negotiations on Monday, April 2. Updates will be communicated throughout the day,” the union tweeted.

Pensions have been the key issue in the strike, which began March 5.

The two sides had met with an outside mediator on Wednesday, but that 19-hour session was adjourned early Thursday. Both sides had said mediation did not officially break off and that the union and university were looking to schedule another meeting.

Carleton also posted a short release on its website Saturday.

“Carleton University and CUPE Local 2424 will continue their talks with the assistance of an external mediator on Monday,” the release stated.

The university statement also said picketing by strikers was expected to resume Monday morning and urged those at the university to exercise caution and patience when crossing the picket lines.
