Kingston police say they’ve collared a man and a woman in their 20s after a woman was robbed at gunpoint, beaten and kidnapped before the male suspect — who was already wanted on a Canada-wide warrant — fired a stolen revolver several times then led police on a foot chase.
It began at about 11:30 p.m. on March 28 when the duo pulled a gun on the woman in the area of Amberdale Crescent, stole her jewelry and a tablet computer. She alleged suffered minor injuries in an assault, police said.
They then allegedly used the victim’s car to take her to the city’s north end where the male suspect fired the gun four times in a nearby parking lot. The suspects fled the scene in the victim’s car.
At about 3:30 a.m., a detective and a patrol officer recovered the stolen car back on Amberdale Crescent and tried to collar the suspects. The man took off on foot but was eventually nabbed in a Craig Lane backyard, police said. A search revealed he was armed with a knife and a loaded gun turned up under the seat of the car, police said.
The woman also fled but was arrested March 30.
Jesse Decardo Turner, 24, and Janelle Danika Street, 21, are charged with robbery, kidnapping, forcible confinement, assault with a weapon, possession of a prohibited firearm, discharging a firearm, possession of stolen property and possession of a stolen firearm. Both were held for a bail hearing.
Turner was already sought on a Canada-wide warrant for an aggravated assault in Edmonton.
“Got my GUN onmeeee cause snitches need stitches straight goods,” read a March 29 Facebook post by a user listed as Janelle Danika Street.
Det.-Sgt. Jay Finn said police are investigating possible charges stemming from the post.
