Maybe he should have added when to call 911.
A 21-year-old Quebec woman called for help at 5 a.m. Saturday because she’d lost all of her money at the Shoreline Casino Thousand Islands and wanted police to help her get home, Leeds OPP reported Monday.
Police told her to “stay put” at the Gananoque casino so they could make sure she was safe but the woman called back to say someone had given her $20, so she was going back into the casino and no longer needed help.
Insp. Mike Francis offered a primer on what’s 911-worthy.
“An emergency is any situation when the safety of people or property is at risk and requires immediate assistance,” the detachment commander said. “Examples of 911 emergencies include: a crime in progress, a fire or a medical emergency or simply, whenever police, fire or ambulance assistance is required immediately.”
