A 20-year-old man is facing a string of weapons charges after pulling a knife on a plainclothes police officer in an apparent road rage incident, police in Kingston report.

An officer with the force’s street crime unit was driving an unmarked car near Ford and Drennan streets Tuesday evening when he spotted three eastbound motorcycles traveling abreast and crowding the westbound lanes.

One gave the plainclothes officer the middle finger and as the bikers passed he noticed that they wore motorcycle club patches.

The officer turned his unmarked vehicle around to take note of their license plate numbers and the riders pulled over towards the right shoulder of the roadway and stopped, partially blocking the eastbound lanes of Drennan Street. The officer stopped about 12 metres away from them and observed that two of the riders wore Outlaws Motorcycle Club vests while a third had a club sticker on his bike.

One of the riders got off his motorcycle and approached the officer in an “aggressive” manner, pulled a large hunting-style knife and made a stabbing motion as he began yelling, police said. When the officer showed his badge, he tucked the knife away and fled back to his motorcycle.

A search of the suspect turned up two knives. He was taken to the police station pending a court appearance on charges of assault with a weapon, possession of a dangerous weapon, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a prohibited weapon and intimidation by threats of violence.

Kingston police said they seized these weapons from a motorcycle rider who was arrested after a road rage incident involving an undercover officer .
