A 27-year-old Ottawa man is behind bars more than 1,300 km from home after the OPP alleges he torched his Nipigon motel room before being collared as he walked out of town.
Nipigon OPP reports that officers were called to a local motel at about 6:20 a.m. Sunday. Firefighters made sure that the fire was out after the flames, which were confined to a single room, were put out with the establishment’s extinguishers. Damage was extensive.
Police believe the fire was intentionally set and located the room’s former occupant walking east on the Trans-Canada Highway.
The unidentified man was held for a bail hearing on charges of arson and arson with disregard for human life.
