Traffic impacts in Ottawa for the coming days – beginning Friday May 4

Upcoming projects will have the following impacts on Ottawa traffic:

• CN Cycle for CHEO – Roads will be closed for the CN Cycle for CHEO on Sunday, May 6, from 6 am until approximately 1 pm. For the complete list of roads affected by this event visit https://cncycle.ca/participant-info/routes/.
  
• Battle of the Atlantic – Roads will be closed for the commemoration of the Battle of the Atlantic on Sunday, May 6, from 7:30 am until noon. Roads closures include:
  • Elgin Street between Albert Street and Wellington Street
  • Queen Street between Elgin Street and Metcalfe Street
  • Wellington Street / Rideau Street between O’Connor Street & Mackenzie Avenue (eastbound lanes)
  • Colonel By Drive between Rideau Street and Daly Avenue
  • Metcalfe Street between Queen Street and Wellington.Street
    
    Most traditional main access routes to the ByWard Market remain unchanged. Access to the ByWard Market will be still be available:
    
  • From the west or south via the Mackenzie King Bridge to Rideau Street and King Edward Avenue to St. Patrick Street.
  • From Gatineau via the Alexandra Bridge to Murray Street
  • From the east roads are not affected
  • Murray Street and St. Patrick Street will remain open
    
• Elgin Street – Preparatory facilitation work for the second phase of Bell Canada’s infrastructure upgrades, including the relocation of some watermains near the intersection of Elgin Street and Nepean Street, will take place from May 4 to 7. Following this, the second phase of Bell’s work will begin on May 7 between Cooper Street and Gloucester Street only.
  May 4
  • Beginning at 9 am on Friday, May 4, Elgin Street southbound will be reduced to one lane of traffic from Lisgar Street to Nepean Street for the day
  • No parking on Elgin Street from Nepean Street to Lisgar Street until May 7
  • No parking on Nepean Street from Metcalfe Street to Elgin Street until May 7
  • No parking on Lisgar Street from Elgin Street to 30 metres west of Elgin Street until end of June
    May 5 and 6
  • Traffic on Elgin Street will be reduced to one lane in each direction from Gloucester Street to Lisgar Street on the east side of the median
  • No access to Elgin Street from Nepean Street
  • Traffic on Nepean Street will be temporarily adjusted to two-way traffic between Elgin Street and Metcalfe Street
    May 7
  • Traffic on Elgin Street will be reduced to three lanes between Gloucester Street and Cooper Street. The west-side lane in this section will be closed
  • No parking will be permitted on the west side of Elgin Street from Lisgar Street to Cooper Street
  • Access to the City Hall Parking Garage will be maintained at all times
  • No parking will be permitted on Nepean Street and Lisgar Street from Elgin Street to 30 metres west of Elgin
  • Pedestrian access to businesses will remain open at all times
  • Work is expected to be completed by late June
    
    These restrictions will be in place from May 7 until expected completion in late June 2018, with the exception of a further watermain relocation near the intersection of Elgin and Lisgar that will take place from May 12 to 14:
    May 12
  • Traffic on Elgin Street will be reduced to one lane in each direction from Gloucester Street to Lisgar Street on the east side of the median
  • No access to Lisgar Street from Elgin Street
  • Traffic on Lisgar Street will be temporarily adjusted to two-way traffic between Elgin Street and Metcalfe Street
  • No parking on Lisgar from Elgin Street to Metcalfe Street
  • The work is expected to be complete by May 14, and revert back to May 7 impacts described above.
    
• Eagleson Road – Eagleson Road is currently reduced to one lane in each direction during off-peak hours, between Stonehaven Drive and Abbeyhill Drive. These intermittent off-peak lane closures are required for the construction and removal of median crossovers and will last until May 18. From Friday May 4 at 7 pm until Monday May 7 at 3 pm there will be continuous lane closures, through peak hours, required for the repair of the local watermain.
  
• Highway 417 - There will be temporary lane reductions on Highway 417 eastbound between Vanier Parkway / Riverside Drive and St. Laurent Boulevard, including a temporary lane reduction on the eastbound off-ramp at St. Laurent Boulevard from Friday May 4 at 10:00pm to Monday May 7 at 6:00am. The lane reduction is required for work on the watermain in the area. This work is weather permitting.
  
• Bank Street – Bank Street will have intermittent lane reductions between Conroy Road and Albion Road from May 7 to June 28. The lane reductions are required to allow for pavement resurfacing.
  
• Fisher Avenue – Fisher Avenue from Baseline Road to Carling Avenue will have lane reductions in both directions from May 7 until June. The work will take place outside of peak hours. The lane reductions are required to allow for pavement resurfacing.
  
• Mitch Owens Road – Mitch Owens Road will have lane reductions from River Road to 300m east of Downey Road, during off peak hours from May 7 to the end of June. The lane reductions are required to allow for pavement resurfacing.
  
• Morley Boulevard – There will be a temporary road closure of Morley Boulevard between Dynes Road and Lexington Street from May 7 to June 1. The road closure is required to replace the watermain and sewer lines at the intersection of Morley Boulevard and Dynes Road.
