Colonel By Drive is going to be squeezed narrower for about a month.
There will be lane closures in both directions at the University of Ottawa underpass and the Corktown Footbridge from Monday, May 28, to the end of June 2018, as crews build cycling and pedestrian crossings at the intersection.
The closures will occur in one lane at a time outside of peak hours, between 9:30 a.m. and 3 p.m., weather permitting. Workers with flags will control the flow of traffic.
Short sections of the entrances of the Rideau Canal Eastern Pathway at the University of Ottawa underpass will be closed alternately during the work. One of the entrances will remain open at all times. Pathway users will still be able to use the Rideau Canal Eastern Pathway throughout the work.
The new work on Colonel By includes a four-metre-wide pedestrian crosswalk and a four-metre-wide, two-way cycling crossing.
These crossings will be aligned with the proposed pedestrian and cycling pathways that are to extend through the tunnel beneath Nicholas Street and connect with the future uOttawa LRT Station and the University of Ottawa.
