The updated Traffic and Parking By-law takes effect on June 1 and replaces the previous by-law and all associated amendments. Under the new by-law, motorists will be able to park for up to six consecutive hours on weekends and statutory holidays, between 7 am and 7 pm where no parking limit signs are present. Previously, the limit was three hours.
Other changes to the by-law have been made to include new infrastructure such as bike boxes, pedestrian crossovers, roundabouts and electric vehicles. The by-law also includes language specified by the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act requirements. When property owners are constructing or redeveloping an off-street parking facility, the by-law now stipulates increased off-street parking ratios for accessible parking
