Chiarelli says goodbye to politics: 'If you're not prepared to lose, don't run'

After a nearly unbroken 31-year run in public office, Bob Chiarelli told his supporters he was done with politics.

Looking tanned and fit, the silver-haired 76-year-old political veteran gave a thank you to his family and supporters, a gracious congratulations to his opponents — the Ottawa West-Nepean contest wouldn’t be decided until, literally, the final polls came in — and exited the political stage.
