A college student is facing a public mischief charge for trying to convince his worried parents that he had been taken hostage, police in Kingston allege.
Officers were called to St. Lawrence College June 14 to check on the 24-year-old student whose parents had reported him missing after receiving a text demanding a large sum of cash if they wanted to see him again.
When police didn’t find the student at the school, they tracked him down – “alone and well” – at a Kingston hotel.
He soon found himself put up at police headquarters then was released on conditions including to appear in court at a later date.
