Those gift cards Loblaws offered to butter up customers after a price-fixing scam has turned into lots of bread for the Ottawa Food Bank.

The agency has received 316 gift cards, with a total value of $7,900, the agency tweeted Thursday.

“Thank you to everyone who donated their cards to the Ottawa Food Bank,” said the agency, which helps 114 member agencies and nearly 40,000 people a month.

“We appreciate your generosity.”

Loblaw Companies Ltd. offered customers a $25 gift card as a goodwill gesture after admitting it participated in an industry-wide bread price-fixing arrangement.

Loblaw and George Weston Ltd. admitted in December that they participated in an industry-wide bread price-fixing arrangement from late 2001 to March 2015, but because the companies tipped off Canada’s competition watchdog, they received immunity in the ensuing investigation.

Update: We have received a total of 316 Loblaw Gift Cards as a result of the card program! That is $7,900. THANK YOU to everyone who donated their cards to the Ottawa Food Bank. We appreciate your generosity. pic.twitter.com/pJYQnWCGPi
