If you are in Ottawa on Canada Day, you will want to know what’s open and closed on the country’s 151st birthday. This year is tricky because the big day falls on Sunday, which means Monday will be a Statutory holiday.

• OC Transpo and Para Transpo are operating free-of-charge on July 1 until the end of the service day at 5 a.m. on Monday, July 2, with extra service on many routes to get people downtown for Canada Day festivities and home after the evening fireworks. Only routes that normally run on Sundays will be in service, with the addition of Route 91 service to Orléans after the fireworks. Most grocery stores and other retailers will be open Sunday (some with reduced hours) and closed on Monday, July 2.

  • Farm Boy stores will be open Sunday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and closed Monday.
  • Rideau Centre is open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Canada Day and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday.
  • Tanger Outlets will be open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday and closed on Monday
  • Place d’Orléans will be open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday and closed on Monday.
  • Bayshore will be open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday and closed on Monday.
  • St. Laurent will be open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday and closed on Monday.

• LCBO and most Beer Stores will be open on Sunday and closed on Monday.

• Banks will be closed on Monday.

• There will be no collection or delivery of mail. Canada Post outlets operated by the private sector will be open according to the hours of service of the host business.

• Museums in the capital region are open and general admission is free on July 1. Charges apply, however, for special exhibitions.

• City hall and other government offices will be closed on both Sunday and Monday.

• Residential garbage and recycling collection will take place on its regular day with no changes to the collection schedule.

• All city parking regulations and restrictions will apply on July 1 and 2.

• All beaches and splash pads will be open, weather permitting, and some outdoor and indoor pools and recreation centres will be open with modified schedules. Check ottawa.ca.
