It's about time.

Friends,

This election is not about choosing a mayor, it's about choosing what your city should look like. Should we carry on with a developer-first model of growing Ottawa, or should we put our communities first? In a community-first model, we wouldn't have the Heron Gate evictions–the biggest eviction in Ottawa since Lebreton flats. We wouldn't dump citywide men's shelters on one community. We wouldn't be losing parkland (like Mooney's Bay and the experimental farm) to private-sector development. We would be respecting community development plans that come from years of consultation instead of explaining to residents why we have to ignore them. We would have a new city hospital where the public wants it–not where it makes the most money for developers. We would be fixing our roads, not building more megaprojects like the Alta Vista Expressway.

We can and must do better.

Ryan Lythall For Mayor Of Ottawa
August 2 at 3:05 PM ·
Being a Mayoral candidate comes with lots of invitations!

So far, I’ve been invited to two very interesting events that will let me showcase my goals as the future Mayor of Ottawa. Plus one that involves baking a pie...

So, I’m looking for someone to help me get my ideas compiled into something that can be said in 1 minute. For my goals in general and my platform points.

Anyone good at that? And want to come by for a drink while we do this? Send me a message!

I’m also looking for someone who can help write a 25-30 minute speech for with basically the same ideas as above.

I would like to practice my speech in front of an audience (of 1 or 2) so I can get the timing down and memorize what I’m going to be saying. I want someone who will listen and provide constructive criticisms to make this the best speech anyone has ever given so, anyone but my girlfriend can help.

Any volunteers? Drinks on me, but not too many. I want the speech to be coherent and relevant to my platform and my beliefs as Mayor.

I really appreciate all of the help and support I’ve already gotten from everyone so far.

why I’m running for mayor

campaign blog

I’m hoping that my campaign for mayor will draw attention to important issues, especially corruption and fraud at City Hall. I want more transparency, accountability and integrity from our politicians.

1. Unlimited terms of office
This is one of the main reasons along with numbers 2, 3, 4, and 11 on this list which made me run in these elections. Currently, our municipality and our government at large do not have limits on the number of terms one can serve, and if there is a limit, then it is too long. These offices should have term limits of 2 like at the federal level in the US, or else we can get stuck in the past with very old ways of thinking and do not grow as fast as we wish we did.
......
He made a very long list, worth to read through. Although he is only 23 years old, but he had made very good points on his website about his policy if he were a mayor of Ottawa.

He also listed his wishes:
My fantasies
These are some of the things I have fantasized about while getting to know our government. Just a quick disclaimer, I fantasize about weird things. I always have and I always will.

  1. I wish we could vote online.
  2. I wish voting was obligatory.
  3. I wish people under 18 could vote.
  4. I wish we had our own version of the autobahn.
  5. I wish there were fewer cars and more people in Ottawa.
  6. I wish members of parliament took turns being the chairperson.
  7. I wish our government wasn’t one of the best, I wish it was the best.
  8. I wish that voters had the option to make their voting choices public.
  9. I wish motions proposed in parliament were amended until they passed.
  10. I wish we could influence the other governments to adopt gun reform laws.
  11. I wish our standard voting system was the Alternative Voting system and not First Past The Post.
  12. I wish our streets had smart traffic lights that recognized that you were the only vehicle on the road giving you a timely green light.
  13. I wish that anyone in the world could vote in our elections but obviously not count towards who actually is elected. Just to see who the world that votes would vote for.

those who does not have a website yet, I have no where to know them. So, I have to skip them now. With those who have provided a website to outline his plateform, I am not sure which one is better for Ottawa in coming 4 years.

what is the priority? safety? building more house? building more road? what else?
