Job Title: Community Interpreter

Location: remote to start, with the return to 400 Cooper Street, Ottawa, Ontario

Salary/Rate: $21.75/hour

Reporting to: Client Services Manager

Department: Client Services

Status: Part Time, Contract

Hours/Schedule: 17.5 hours/week

Start Date: June 1, 2021

End Date: December 31, 2021



Overview of the role:

The Community Interpreter will be providing the highest quality interpretation services for Chinese speaking clients in Ottawa. Hours scheduled will meet the needs of community demands. Candidates must display a wide continuum of language skills in Chinese and English and consistently exhibit outstanding professionalism and excellent customer service skills.



Responsibilities:

• Provide interpretation services to clients for community needs (ex. medical appointments, social service appointments, government services...etc.)

• Assisting clients with booking COVID-19 vaccination appointments

• Assisting in providing COVID information workshops based on material from Ottawa Public Health

• Liaising with Client Service department for appropriate program referrals

• General administrative and other duties as assigned



Requirements:

• Fluent in Cantonese/Mandarin

• Advanced proficiency in English

• Certification in interpretation (Chinese-English)

• Professional liability insurance

• Police Records Check for the vulnerable sector


Assets:

• Previous interpretation experience

• Knowledge of settlement needs

• Knowledge of community service areas
