Garbage, transit, city services and more – all the holiday impacts you need to know

The City of Ottawa would like to remind residents of the following schedule changes and City service impacts for the Remembrance Day holiday on Tuesday, November 11.

Client Service Centres

  • The City’s 3-1-1 Contact Centre will be open for urgent matters only. Please visit ottawa.ca/311 to submit a service request online.
  • All ServiceOttawa’s Client Services Centres, Provincial Offences and Administrative Penalty System (APS) counters and phone lines will be closed. Counters are located at Ottawa City Hall (110 Laurier Avenue West), Ben Franklin Place (101 Centrepointe Drive), Orléans (255 Centrum Boulevard), Metcalfe (8243 Victoria St) and the City’s Provincial Offences Court at 100 Constellation Drive.
  • The Business Licensing Centre at 735 Industrial Avenue will be closed.
  • The City of Ottawa Spay and Neuter Clinic at 26 Concourse Gate will be closed.
  • The City of Ottawa Archives and Gallery 112 at the James Bartleman Centre will be closed on Tuesday, November 11.



Green bin, recycling and garbage collection

  • Curbside green bin, recycling, garbage and bulky item collection will follow the normal collection schedule on Tuesday, November 11.
  • Residents can sign up to receive collection reminders and service alerts by email or phone call at ottawa.ca/CollectionCalendar.
  • Multi-residential garbage containers will be collected on the regular scheduled day. Collections of multi-residential recycling containers, bulky items and green bins will be delayed by one day for the remainder of the week.



Parking

  • All City parking regulations apply.



Transit Services

  • During National Veterans’ Week, November 5 – November 11, Veterans wearing their medals or uniforms or presenting ID can ride for free on OC Transpo buses, all O-Train lines, Para Transpo vehicles and Société de transport de l'Outaouais (STO) buses. Companions accompanying veterans can also ride for free.
  • At all O-Train stations, veterans and their companions can use the video-chat function at ticket machines to speak with an OC Transpo representative to get through the fare gates at no charge.
  • OC Transpo will pause all service to observe two minutes of silence at 11 am, where it is safe to do so. OC Transpo and Para Transpo buses will pull over to the side of the road and all trains will be held at station platforms.
  • OC Transpo will maintain regular transit service on Remembrance Day with some detours due to road closures for Remembrance Day ceremonies:
  • Downtown, Routes 5, 6, 7, 9, 10, 11, 12, 14, 15, 17, 18, 19 and 20 will be detoured due to road closures on Rideau and Elgin streets between 6:30 am and 1:30 pm.
  • Additional detours on Routes 11, 39, 61, 84 and 163 will be required for road closures during community ceremonies across Ottawa. o Detour information will be available on OC Transpo’s alerts page. o Use the Travel Planner or Transit, the recommended app for OC Transpo customers, to plan your trip.



Para Transpo:

  • Para Transpo will operate regular service on Tuesday, November 11.
  • Regular bookings or recurring trips for Tuesday, November 11 will not be cancelled.
  • The Para Transpo pick-up and drop-off location for the National Remembrance Day Ceremony will be on Queen Street, between Elgin and Metcalfe streets.
  • Customers can book trips for Remembrance Day starting Tuesday, November 4, by calling 613-560-5000 or using My Para Transpo.
  • The trip reservation line and My Para Transpo will be open from 7 am until 5 pm on Remembrance Day for booking trips.
  • The Para Transpo trip cancellation and information line will be open from 6 am until 12:30 am, and the text 57272 service (standard rates apply) will be open from 6 am to 9 pm.
  • Customers can receive trip details or cancel a trip at any time, 24/7, through the automated phone system or My Para Transpo.
  • The Taxi Coupon line will be closed.



OC Transpo’s Customer Service Centre located at the Rideau Centre will be open on Tuesday, November 11 from 12:30 pm to 9 pm.

Recreation and cultural services

  • All community, recreation and cultural facilities are open.
  • Ben Franklin Place, Meridian Theatres@Centrepointe,The Barbara Ann Scott Gallery, City Hall Art Gallery and Karsh-Masson Gallery will be closed on Tuesday, November 11.



Ottawa Public Health




Employment and Social Services

  • All four Employment and Social Services offices will be closed on Tuesday, November 11:
    • 370 Catherine Street
    • 2339 Ogilvie Road
    • 100 Constellation Drive
    • 2020 Walkley Road



Municipal child care services




Ottawa Public Library

  • All branches of Ottawa Public Library (including Bookmobile, Homebound services and InfoService) will be closed on Tuesday, November 11. Digital content, services, and program listings are available through the Ottawa Public Library website. Virtual programs are available on OPL’s YouTube channel. Regular hours resume on Wednesday, November 12.
