WATCH LIVE: Jan. 6 Committee hearings - Day 5

The House committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack will hold its fifth public hearing June 23, focused on former President Donald Trump's efforts to pressure the Justice Department to help undo the 2020 presidential election.

The hearing is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. ET on Thursday, June 23.

The hearing comes after the committee on Tuesday, June 21 laid out evidence on how Trump and his allies pressured election officials in key states, including Georgia and Arizona, to overturn the 2020 presidential election results.

WATCH LIVE: Jan. 6 Committee hearings - Day 6

Warning: This hearing may include footage of violence and strong language.

The House Jan. 6 committee announced an previously unplanned hearing for June 28, promising new evidence and witness testimony.

Committee members did not confirm a focus for Tuesday's hearing, scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. ET. But it will likely lean heavily on the testimony of Cassidy Hutchinson, a senior aide to former Trump chief of staff Mark Meadows, the NewsHour and other media outlets confirmed.

In the course of her work for the White House, Hutchinson had firsthand insight into communications between Meadows and former President Donald Trump, including those leading up to the insurrection and in the days afterward.

In the year since its creation, the committee has conducted more than 1,000 interviews, seeking critical information and documents from people witness to, or involved in, the violence that day.

Additional hearings are expected in July.

Hutchinson told committee she heard Trump say he didn't care that his supporters had weapons

From CNN's Clare Foran

Cassidy Hutchinson, an aide to former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows, testified before the Jan. 6 hearing that she overheard former President Donald Trump saying that he did not care if his supporters had weapons — and suggested he had no issue with them marching to the Capitol armed.

"I overheard the President say something to the effect of 'I don't F-ing care that they have weapons. They're not here to hurt me. Take the F-ing mags away. Let my people in, they can march to the Capitol from here. Let the people in, take the F-ing mags away."

Former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows told his aide Cassidy Hutchinson on Jan. 2, 2021, that "things might get real, real bad on Jan. 6," she testified to the Jan. 6 House select committee on Tuesday.

She said he told her this after she spoke with former President Trump attorney Rudy Giuliani, who told her "something to the effect of 'we're going to the Capitol.'"

Hutchinson said that Meadows "was scrolling through his phone; I remember leaning against the doorway and saying, 'I just had an interesting conversation with Rudy, Mark. It sounds like we're going to go to the Capitol.' He didn't look up from his phone and said something to the effect of 'there's a lot going on, Cass, but I don't know, things might get real, real bad on Jan. 6."

"That evening was the first moment that I remember feeling scared and nervous for what could happen on Jan. 6," she said.

Scheduled for Jul 12, 2022

The House panel investigating the Jan. 6 riot at the Capitol last year has called its next hearing for July 12 where it is expected to lay out evidence on how the pro-Trump mob was organized, assembled and financed.

The public hearing, the panel's seventh, is set for 1pm EDT.

No witnesses have been unveiled. But one of the panel's members, Democrat Adam Schiff of California, said on "Face the Nation" Sunday the hearing "will be focused on the efforts to assemble that mob on the mall, who was participating, who was financing it, how it was organized, including the participation of these white-nationalist groups like the Proud Boys, the Three Percenters and others."

The Proud Boys are a far-right extremist group that describes itself as “Western chauvinists” or “men who refuse to apologize for creating the modern world,” according to the Department of Justice. The Southern Poverty Law Center designates the Proud Boys a hate group, citing white supremacist and racist rhetoric from many of its members.

Former Trump White House counsel Pat Cipollone praised former Vice President Mike Pence for his actions on Jan. 6, 2021, and for resisting the pressure campaign by Trump allies seeking to enlist him in their effort to overturn the election results.

In one video clip shown by the committee, Cipollone said, "I think the vice president did the right thing. I think he did the courageous thing. I have a great deal of respect for Vice President Pence."

In a separate video clip, Cipollone said that, in his view, Pence "didn't have the legal authority to do anything except what he did," during the joint session of Congress convened to count and confirm the electoral votes.

Cipollone even went so far as to say that he believed the vice president deserved the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

"I think he did a great service to this country. And I think I suggested to somebody that he should be given the Presidential Medal of Freedom for his actions," Cipollone told the committee.

The Presidential Medal of Freedom is the highest honor a civilian can receive, for special contributions to the culture or security of the United States or world peace.
