Korean Film Night

TIME : 7:00 p.m.
PLACE : Alumni Auditorium, Jock-Turcot Hall (University Centre),University of Ottawa
ADMISSION:FREE, open to all
http://www.emb-korea.ottawa.on.ca/culture/movies/murder.htm
Based on the true events of Korea's first serial killer, the film is a first hand
look at true detective/murder investigation.
A young woman’s body is found after being raped in a rural area; the case catches public attention when it is followed by a similar murder two months later. While the fear of serial murder sweeps through the town, a police task force is set up.
In the mid-80s when Korea was still under a dictatorial government, murder investigation was limited to interrogation and manpower alone. With no mechanism in place for profiling or forensics, our main characters, a country detective and another from Seoul are at odds with the task at hand and with each other. Nothing quite works out the way you expect…
Memories of Murder is not your typical serial killer movie. Instead of the usual
gory images seen in other films of this genre, this film focuses on the story, the
situation and the strong leading characters. These factors together result in a
memorable cinematographic experience.
COMING SOON: Comrade (aka: Double Agent), 2003. This film portrays a North Korean
defector who gets recruited by CIA. This political spy film reflects a time when
loyalties are frequently blurred.
