Hello everyone,
Last winter, CUESEF funded the purchase of six 802.11g wireless access
points for EngSoc to install and maintain around the engineering
buildings. We subsequently posted a survey asking our users where they
would most appreciate wireless access.
Over the summer months we have been working hard to come up with a
solution that is both secure and easy to use. At this point, there are
four access points running around the engineering buildings, with more
planned in the near future.
Currently covered areas include:
- All of third block ME
- Most of the ME quad
- The area around Bell Theatre (2000MC)
We are currently working with the Dean's Office, IMS, and CCS to bring
wireless to within Bell Theatre, and possibly other popular classrooms.
To allow for secure 802.1x access, make certain your computer is running
at least Windows XP SP1. Recent Linux releases can also be used with the
aid of wpa_supplicant.

If you have difficulty connecting, feel free to visit us at the office
(3338ME), which is open most afternoons. Please note, however, that this
is a completely new system, meaning it is bound to encounter glitches.
Please inform ett@engsoc.carleton.ca if you encounter strange behaviour.
Most of our initial testers had no problems whatsoever.
There is still some work to be done with this setup, as well as access
points to put up. Stay tuned...
