Gatineau Park has opened its cross-country ski trails for the 2000-2001 season. The park boasts one of North America's most popular and beautiful trail networks, with 200 kms of groomed trails.
Nearly 80km of those trails were groomed and opened on opening day Dec. 16, with the rest of the network available shortly. Trail maps, as well as information on ski conditions, are available at the Gatineau Park Visitors Centre at 33 Scott Road in Chelsea. The Centre also has a trailblazer's room and a snowshoe rental service. You can also get information on the trails and conditions by phone at (819) 827-2020.
Daily passes, which cost $7, $4.50 for seniors and teens, or $18 for families (children 12 and under are free), are available at the Gatineau Park Visitors Centre (33 Scott Road in Chelsea) or at the 15 parking areas that provide direct access to the trails.
Season's passes are also available at $95 for adults, $57 for seniors and teens, or $220 for families. Season's passholders can enjoy discounts on the use of trails in other parks, including Mauricie National Park, Camp Mercier and Mont Ste-Anne in the Quebec City area, Hardwood Hills near Toronto, and Lake Placid in upstate New York.
