I agree with you. But there are obviously something that they can to do serve our oversea Chinese better. In fact, as a Chinese government branch representing the Chinese people and the Chinese government, they are supposed to do their best. On this point, I hope you would agree with me.

also let me also share with you my experience:

I went to Toronto as an international student in sept 19xx. The second day I call the Chinese embassy in Toronto and told me that I was a Chinese and would like to register with them so that they knew I am in Toronto just in case ... The person who answer the phone was a lady and she said since I was not supported by the government, they are not responsible for me... I do not know how you wouldfeel about that when you hear this, but I just felt chilling all the way down to my heart. And it came to the Chinese national day, Oct 1. One week before the date, I called the consulate again and asked if there was any activity that I could participate in. Once again, they asked me if I was supported by the government, and when they learned that I am a Chinese student supported by my schloarship, the answer was: no, we do not have anything for you. After Oct 1, I started to see flyers all around U of T inviting all Chinese people for a party to celebrate Taiwan's National Holiday on Oct 10th. I went to the party ...

I do not want to put this into any perspectives, but my true personal experience. Now I have a Canadian passport, everywhere I go, I contact the local Canadian embassy/consulate and I never have any heart chilling answer like any more.

cheers.

I was not supported by the government, they are not responsible for me...

What's a government?

A government is supposed to responsible for all its citizen.

I found the our chinese's political ideas/ideals are pretty primitive.

Someone who holds a Canadian/American passport and will go back to China or other countries recently can try something: knock the door to the Canadian/American embasscy around mid-night with a huge suitcase and ask for accommodation for a night, see what will happen. Let us know...
I guess the embasscy staff will point you the the closest hotel.

the point is, the embassy staff most likely would POLITELY point you to the closest hotel.

once I was in an emergency in China (the details of which I would not want to share) and I called the Canadian embassy in Beijing. It was a Sunday afternoon and nobody was there to answer the call, but the call was directly transferred to Ottawa and one agent talked to me over the phone. I left my phone # in China with him and the next day the Canadian embassy in beijing contacted me and asked me if there was something that they could help me with.

china government could do better for it's own citizen. however, it's not my biz, it's up to them, not me. i have no interest to discuss what they should do or should not. i just need to know what it is. if there is anything not working for me, what i will do is to move my position, not anybody else's.

the government is there For the people and serve the people, and for a responsible citizen, there is a word called: participation.

Dear Sabrina,

I hope my lousy English does not aggravate you yet another time. Thank you for your comments on my previous post, and you can trust me that I do my best to write correct English here as much as possible -- although sometimes my thinking takes over the writing thus I have typos here and there.

As far as the discussion concerned, it dose not matter who I am (by the way, this is the beauty of the internet, isn't it?). All I wanted to say is that the people who are working for the government and representing the country should realize whatever they do, they are the face of the country. Unfortunately, from what I experienced and what I read here, some of the country-representing people have failed to realize that.

I would never claim that I know China well after taking residence elsewhere many years ago, especially after one incident about 5 years ago where a street mob of 5 beat me up at a crowded street around noon time in front of about 200 onlookers in Beijing, and nobody did anything. While I was on the groud being kicked in the face, the head and the stomach, all I was thinking was that I was going to die. Fortunately, I survived. The local police concluded it was a street fight, bad people fighting bad people. I cut my trip short and came back. The X-ray here showed that my spine was fractured bacause of huge external impact on that site. This explained why I had numbness on one side of my body below the site of injury. All I did in China that day was to refuse to buy a roasted duck that the vendor was trying to sell me and said it was not clean. I have never gone back China since.

sorry for letting my emotion run high. Cheers.
