Residential housing construction in Ottawa dove 31 per cent in the first 11 months of 2005, according to the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation.
Just 481 housing starts were reported for November, marking the 10th month of decline this year.
The lower rates were offset somewhat by housing projects in Kanata, Nepean and old Ottawa.
CMHC officials said more homebuyers were switching to re-sale homes rather than going into the new home market.
Across Canada, actual urban starts were down 5.9 per cent in the first 11 months of the year, compared with 2004.
