The Royal Ottawa Hospital (ROH) in Ottawa has an annual fundraiser where they sell Nova Scotia Balsam Trees. Normally they sell out by this time, but for whatever reason this year, they didn't.
At this point, they are offering all their remaining trees. (approx 100) for free. If you would like to make a donation to the hospital for a tree, you can do so at the switchboard. If you don't have the funds, or prefer not to donate, that's OK too. The trees are in a temporary fenced lot at the back of the building. There are signs pointing the way for the tree lot when you drive in. Please check if the tree already has a name tag on it, as a few trees were tagged today by people who are coming back later tonight or tomorrow to pick them up.
The Royal Ottawa Hospital is at the corner of Merivale and Carling in Ottawa and can be accessed from Carling going westbound. You'll see the construction for the new facility, so turn right just after that, before you get to the intersection of Merivale. Or if you are travelling on Merivale, there is a turn off between the Queensway underpass and Carling, across from the west entrance to Westgate mall .
This information was passed to me from someone who works at the hospital who knew that I hadn't bought my tree yet. I am a little late with Christmas planning so I just picked up my tree tonight. It looks great.
