我猜想: 这一选区的很多选民是反对魁独的Francophones.

'我猜想: 这一选区的很多选民是反对魁独的Francophones.'

They have their own reason to be against Quebec independence. It does not mean that they embrace Canadian federalism. First of all, if Quebec becomes independent, there will be a severe backlash against francophones outside Quebec, and they will be severely affected. Secondly, these Franco-Ontariens are mostly bilingual, and they have a privileged position in Ottawa with most federal government jobs being occupied by them. If Quebec leaves and Canada become unilingual anglophone, they will lose this privilege. If they go to Quebec, they are just another francophone group with no special status. The worst is that their French is not really that good either, as many, especially the older generation, have only learned French as a home language. Therefore, francophones outside Quebec, including the Acadians in the Maritimes, have the most to lose if Quebec separates.
