and local company, which means local job market, which also means someone will or will not have a job, which means someone beside Mr. Lai can or cannot make some money with his labor.
It also means, the government makes less money, but it doesn't means the government will spend less, which means more tax will be collected somewhereelse, which mean someone else will have to pay more, which means those guys will make less.
you don't understand that, which means you have no knowledge about tax and government spending. which means you are ... you know what I meant.
With my limited understanding, it seems that smuggling in general breaks down the balance of fair competetion. It's true that comsumers do spend less money buying smuggled goods, but it's a short term gain. Take oil for example which was one of the biggest items that Lai smuggled. The demestic oil companies can not compete with the price that smugglers offer. The demestic companies will go bankrupt if the situation goes on for long time. The goverment can either let the demestic companies go bankrupt and pay social assistance (possibly more in other areas such as social stability etc.) to the employees of the bankrupted companies, or have to subsidize the companies. But by either way the money that goverment spend is taxpayers money. Therefore in the long run the taxpayers end up paying more. It's similar to the corruption, one company may make money by bribing officials, but in a long run the society pays.
