shady: you sounds like an expert on this. could you suggest a setup (motherboard, RAM, video card and maybe power supply). I don't play games (what a waste) but I do lots of photo editing (file size can be big such as 20M), and may start doing some video editing (DV). Never tried overclocking before but i may want to give it a shot. E6600 is my target.

So you are saying to get all the other components ready before CPU ? I don't understand why that matters.

I dont think it matters. Finally, you need everything; otherwise, it equals you get nothing. It seems your build is going be expensive.

well,fad, i did say i will stick to 939 before, but when i found out the 6600's price and it's performace, I think i am back to intel this time.

all depends what you plan to do with the desktop. if you dont game and only do useful stuff ie graphihcs design you really dont need E6600 or 5000+.
you may note that overclocking is very important. you can simply buy a E6300 and with a decent hsf you can oc it pass 3.0ghz which is enough if your not hardcore computer gamer.
as for amd they will have a price cut after core 2 duo release and will be very affordable. am2 x2 3800+ is very good at oc also. Note that clock per clock core 2 duo beats x2 by around 20% or more.
