1. get real 100 (+) from neighbor, return 79 (-) to buyer, keep 21 (+)
2. return real 100 (-) to neighbor, get fake 100 back (nothing)
3. loose an item worth 18 (-).

Total loss +21 -79 -100 -18 = -176

no, the 18 bucks was (were)lost last time because he got something that was worthless (i mean, could not be sold); at current transaction he only lost the 礼物.


suppose you buy one share of a company stock at $100 on September 1 05 and on September 11, 06 the company go belly up and one share is $0. Do you lose money in 05 or 06? for me, it is 05, the time money leaves me.

Put it this way, if he did not receive the counterfeit or he sold the gift to somebody else?

It is not he got something worthless. It's just because somebody cheated the valuable, just the way his 100 was cheated.

So, it can't compare with stock.
