to find out if your HRV is covered by the recall.

For your safety, I'd suggest to turn off your HRV immediately, and take a few minutes to find out the maker and model of your HRV unit. Don't use it until it's confirmed that your unit is not in the list, or the unit has been upgraded by the manufacture.

What is it? furnace?

HRV，翻成中文，也许可以叫它个什么“热回收空气交换器”吧？就是从室外引些新鲜空气进来，和室内的空气交换一下，以便补充室内的新鲜空气。其大概原理是从暖气系统的回风管道里面取出一小部分空气，经过一个热交换器把它携带的热量“交”给从室外吸入的冷空气，再把这点被抽去热量的空气排到室外、把被加热过的冷空气送入回风管道。

HRV的最大用处是改善室内空气质量。按“Energy Star”标准建的新房里面会装这玩艺儿，还有些房主自己买了装上。到地下室看看，有没有挂着一个长了四条粗腿的铁盒子？其中的两条“腿”（包了保温材料的通风管）通往室外，另两条接在回风管上。

要是哪位朋友家里装了这东西，就去查查它的型号吧。安全第一。
