In the early hours of Sept. 1, 2007, a Carleton University student was sexually
assaulted in a lab in the Steacie Building.
As a result of this incident, Carleton University officials have posted over 200
security posters with information about the assault and an eye-witness
description of the assailant. These posters are displayed in prominent locations
across campus.
Description of Suspect:
White male
height between 5'8" and 5'10" with broad shoulders and a chubby build
in his mid-twenties
bald head
wearing a blue sweatshirt
carrying a white Macy's bag
spoke English with no accent
Anyone with information about the attack is urged to call the Ottawa Police at
(613) 236-1222.
Since Sept. 1, Carleton University security patrols have been tripled.
University Safety officials have conducted a special presentation to residence
students to ensure members of the community are fully aware of safety procedures
on campus. Additional safety sessions are being scheduled.
Students and staff are being urged to use the buddy system and travel with
friends after dark. Anyone who is concerned about walking alone can call
University Safety at 613-520-3612 and arrangements will be made for an escort
across campus.
As is standard procedure, closed-circuit cameras are being monitored 24/7 and
students are reminded to seek out emergency phones located across campus if they
are feeling threatened.
University Safety is working very closely with Ottawa Police to solve this
crime.
All of us at Carleton University are deeply saddened by this incident and our
hearts go out to the victim. We have offered our full assistance to the victim
and her family during this most difficult time.
