Satin, semi-gloss, and high-gloss. Which one is better?

almost all hardwood today is treated by a stain and plus urethanes or polyurethane top coat.

satin, semi-gloss..... is for paint not for hardwood floor

Different type of varnish finish looks different. Satin is not too shinning, semi-gloss and high-gloss are more shinning. There is no good or bad, all depends on your personal preference. The thumb of rule is always much the stairs with the hardwood floor, i.e., if you use satin for stairs, use satin for floor as well.
