请教:有关孩子选择在Colonel By school上高中的一些观点

矛盾中....My child 's home high school is West Carleton, Dunrobin. This high school is very new. Recently, the rank is up stably. My child is accepted by Colonel By IB program. A.... Fish or Bear paw? It is hard to choice. My child want to go Colonel By. For me it is a burden. So, who make decision? Child? or Me? We don't want to control child so much!

lazy还能被IB program录取，就说明它是各有潜质的孩子。他需要雕琢，放在一群学习好的孩子里也许是个推进力。

当然，如果1，2年以后不行，可以转学。

the child is a super genius.

if the child can make it that way: go to princeton or mit without hard work, that is best.

in this world, who wants to work hard if there is an easy way for success in ilfe?


after your child makes it to a top university, the next super target is: striking rich without working hard.

look around: the fillthy rich do not work but earn tons of cash


or even better the super kid can become filthy rich without even trying university

bill gates did not finish and he made it

if he can make it, the child certainly can




my recommendation

stay in his current school;

why bothers so much time/effort to go to a school that demands hard work and participation in social work

同意这个建议，他的学校已经排在并列第二了。没必要花过多的时间在路上。如果真想去IB，可以考虑搬家。

我看到有的孩子在IB，后来越来越吃力，退出来了。只有你和他自己知道他是否能够，并且愿意接受挑战。最好让他事先考虑好了，下定决心，照一条路走下去。是金子在那里都能闪光。

Do you know how many students can go Ivy college?--这个没问过。干吗一定非要上这些学校？我的原则是，你有愿望，就自己去实现。所以我对孩子的学习历来关心不多，而是鼓励她自己去研究那所学校最适合她。

对，对，就是这样。黑兄的心态就对了。藤校嘛，去了当然好。不去也没啥。藤校的生源也是多样化，学的一般，家里有关系，也能去。所以，去藤校的也有小布什这样的人。

以前看过的孩子进藤校的文章。藤校的学生来源多样化，各有标准，看来看去，我感觉好像标准就是一个：就是学生毕业以后给学校捐款的可能性和能力越强，就越有录取的可能。一些学术有成就的孩子可以给学校长脸，收。领导能力强的孩子，将来做ceo，vp的可能性比较大，收入就高，给学校捐大笔钱的可能性高，收。能力一般，老爸有钱的，家族可以给学校捐款，收。爱做涡轮铁的孩子，有奉献精神，挣一个捐俩的，收。

所以，不见得藤校出来的孩子都很有能力，也不见得不是藤校出来的孩子就没有能力。只要学校不是太差，好一点的学校就行了。

过于执著对小孩对自己都没有好处。

如果孩子潜力比较大，去一个要求严格训练量比较大的学校还是有好处的，这样的孩子需要一些适当的push。Colonel By school 的ib就不错。

我儿子是个需要little push 的孩子.和努力向上的孩子在一起,他也跟着勤奋;和"一般般"的孩子在一起,他也就什么都凑合了.将来他上什么大学,我无所谓.关键是想让他养成做事认真努力的生活态度.这也是我们暂时接受colonel by school offer的原因.

让我犹豫的不仅是因为学校离家太远,还有我实在弄不清到colonel by school学习面临的压力究竟有多大.真不想让孩子成为书呆子.现在我儿子有很多体育.音乐等活动,到Grade 11,12还有时间去做这些吗?

当然肯定有人说,这得根据你儿子的学习能力了.不错,可是我怎么知道他在IB Program 里属于上.中.下哪一档?学校有排名,但不告诉我们.还有,有多大比例的学生真正能拿到IB diploma?有人说20%,有人说70%,学校网站说80%多,这差的太多了吧.还有,有谁知道入学成绩是多少属于中等水平?过几天拿到成绩,我好有个比较.

总之,我prefer给孩子一些challenge,but not too much.如果中等以下成绩,或是拿diploma的比例太小,我想还是算了别去了.否则再伤了孩子的自信心就不合算了.

"过几天拿到成绩,我好有个比较." How can you compare? you only know your son's. You never know others.
