It is interesting to see the minimum coverage in Canadian media on the protesting yesteday on parliment hill. e.g. I haven't see the Global & Mail has any word on it yet.
Considering the 5000+ people were protesting the media coverage is really not that much compare to that if there is any "free Tibet" protesting going on, no mater if it's only 50 of them, the canadian media would dig it out wherever they are.
This lack of coverage itself shows clearly that how much canadian media is biased.
Seeing this protecting, I think, the Canadian media is also in pareanioa because all their fundamental biased believeing on China is in question now and they are not ready to see this to be hapenned here in the parliment hill. So, the media wouldn't be able to say anything even if they are trying to put some words on that.

Suprised? That is what the Freedom of the Press is all about. :-)

The publisher of a newspaper sets the rules (editorial policies) and the journalists have to follow (if they still want their pay cheques.).

WRT government vs the press, in part, the press has the freedom to decide what to cover and how to cover news stories while the government has the right/power to influence or manupilate them (news conference/briefing is one example).

We need CBC/ABC/CNN chinese director/manager

Hi, Buddies:
Why are you guys so surprise for the reality?
As we know, There are not any Chinese director/manager for CBC/ABC/CNN etc, why do you think the media will work for Chinese?
If we are not working hard to get these positions, we will never be able to let Canadian hear our voice.
Wake up, Buddies!
Learn from Jewish!

Relax folks,

In my opinion the media coverage of the Sunday rally is in fact quite impressive. Didn't you see the large photo on the frontpage of Metro?

Keep in mind the principle of media coverage is "no news is good news". So a dog bites a man is not good news. But a man bites a dog is.

In this respect a peaceful Sunday rally did not really make "good" news. It made news (but not good news) because of its scale and perhaps also because it could be viewed by many as the voice of the silent Chinese community (we usually remain silence on local, domestic, and international issues, don't we?). It would have made good news had the confrontation between the pro-china and pro-Tibet groups resulted in injuries or arrests.

Anyhow, no news is in deed good news. I think we should celebrate that the rally was sucessful and peaceful, and our voice has been heard (to some extend).

I think we should express our sincere thanks to the organizers of the event and all the volunteers who helped out at the event.

Having said that, we should also probably learn some lessons from this invaluable experience so that we will be able to organize ourselves in a better way and get our voices out more effectively.

And one of the effective ways to raise our concerns and get our voice heard is to write or call your local MP, MPP, and city councillor. Keep in mind these are the people who make policies and decisions. While the opinions of the media matter a lot to the politicians, the voice of the voters has a much more direct impact on how the politicians make their decisions.

In other words, in a democratic sociaty, the best and most effective way to get your voice heard and your concerns addressed, is to be active in the local politics. And of course, you also have to be reasonable, which means, you also have to listen to other people's voices, including the voices from the pro-Tibet folks, for example.

At least, we get less media distortion on Sunday rally...
