The Director Internal Evaluation reports to the Vice President of Safety.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES:
The Director, Internal Evaluation reports to the Vice President Safety and has overall responsibility for the day-to-day management of the Internal Evaluation Program (IEP). He/She will develop and manage the IEP to ensure compliance with the written program as outlined in this manual and will seek to continually improve and enhance the program. Substantive changes to the IEP will require approval of the President & CEO. The duties and responsibilities of the Director include:

·Develop, implement and maintain an Internal Evaluation Program in accordance with the guidance contained in Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Air Carrier Internal Evaluation Programs Advisory Circular (AC) 120-59 (per its most current revision).
·Develop, implement, and maintain a safety assurance function in accordance with the guidance contained in the FAA Safety Management System (SMS) AC 120-92 (per its most current revision), and other FAA SMS guidance materials
·Manage Safety Division “joint oversight” activities with the FAA under SMS, as described in AC 120-92 (per its most current revision)
·Ensure that SMS operational risk controls (as described in AC 120-92) continue to conform to their requirements and that they continue to be effective in maintaining risk within acceptable levels
·Develop, enhance, and monitor operational safety performance metrics to identify and communicate adverse trends
·Coordinate all external agency audits of Alaska Airlines operations (IOSA, DOD, Medallion Foundation, etc)
·Develop an annual internal evaluation schedule that is coordinated with the Internal Audit department and approved by the BOD Safety Committee
·Ensure that all internal evaluations are conducted on schedule
·Review all evaluation information and prepare a summary of all evaluations for the IERB
·Prepare finding reports for submission to each operating department with evaluation findings
·Participate in industry groups seeking to refine and improve the IEP
·Review departmental corrective action plans for accuracy and effectiveness
·Track both findings and corrective actions to ensure follow up and completion
·Prepare summaries of evaluation findings and corrective action plans for the Vice President Safety
·Prepare quarterly and annual reports of internal evaluation progress for senior management and the Board of Directors Safety Committee in accordance with the Alaska Airlines Safety Division Quality Manual
·Maintain the electronic database of evaluation information and findings
·Conduct evaluations of Code Share Partners as required
·Notify the FAA Certificate Holding District Office within 10 days of any change or the vacancy of the Director of Safety position

Qualifications:
·Have a full understanding of Alaska Airlines aviation safety standards and safe operating practices, 14 CFR Chapter I, the certificate holder’s operations specifications, and the manual (s) required by 121.133 of this chapter
·Have supervisory or managerial experience within flight operations, Maintenance and Engineering, or equivalent or the transportation industry
·Preferred: Have attended a recognized comprehensive safety certificate program
·Familiar with OSHA, EPA and other federal safety regulations
·Familiar with accepted auditing techniques
