The good brand is craftman, toro, ariena. But snow blower is mature product most brand are almost same. But make sure it has a Tecumseh engine.
Big one needs lot of space to store it, so put this in the consideration.
High Horse power and wider machines is good, but there are heavy and needs lot of space to store, when the engine is down. They could be difficult to push uphill.
My friend has a 13.5 hp machine. Last year it break down twice. Once is it run over the christmas light wire, a bolt break. Another time wet snow frozn in the machine, it break a belt. If the same problem happen to my 5hp machine it would simply stop the engine. But a 13.5hp is too powerfull, engine keeps running, and overpower the bolt and belt. But his machine do work faster.
I am happy with my 20 year old, 5hp 21 inch snow blower. It is compact, and light. It needs few more runs to clean the driveway. I can live with that.
