How to control new house humidity

Will move to new construction house. The inspector said that it was important to always keep 40% humidity in the house. What should I do? Do I need to buy a dehumidifier in the basement, then a humidifer for main floor and second floor? What kind of this humidifier should I buy? Centralize or not? Any tips for control humidity in the house?Many thanks.

I wonder if you got the same thing we got, we had hardwood floor problem before our closing, and they claimed it's the humidity problem. They also asked us to install a dehumidifier in the basement and try to maintain a 40% humidity in the house.

keep the bathroom fan on when take a shower and after(30 minutes). Keep the furnace fan on 24 hours. Put range hood on when you cook even when you cooking soup for long time.
These are the ways to keep house dry.
But in winter the normal problem is too dry. I keep my furnace fan on 24 hours. It takes more electricity but it makes humidity and temperature even at whole house.

Winter - just keep ventilation fan on all the time as outside RH is much lower than inside. Best is install a HRV (Heat Recovery Ventilation). HRV will provide ventilation while recover heat to save heating cost. It will make a lot of difference in terms of air quality in side the house. A much fresher smell in the house.

Summer - use air-conditioner

One important thing is to install timer for the ventilation fan in every bathing room. This will help to ensure the fan will be on for at least 20-30 minutes after every bath.

If both situation is still no able to reduce humidity to the desired level, use dehumidifier.
