HOW DO I QUALIFY?
The number of applications to the Architecture program far exceeds the available First-Year places. TheSchool looks for students with high academicpotential, keen powers of observation, creativeimagination, critical attitudes, an ability to formideas and give them artistic expression, the desire to use tools, an ability to make things thoughtfully, and to communicate with clarity and completeness.Sensitivity to environmental and social issues andinteresting all-around experience is valued inconsidering candidates.
Mature students or students who have studied in adifferent discipline before applying to architectureare of special interest to the School.
Applicants are evaluated both on academic credentialsand creative promise as demonstrated through aportfolio package submission. While it is recommendedthat applicants to the School of Architecture havesome form of post-secondary academic experience, theprogram accepts and accommodates students graduatingfrom high school.
The minimum academic requirement for admission tofirst year is the Ontario Secondary School Diploma(OSSD) or equivalent, including six Ontario AcademicCourses (OACs), among which must be Physics and either Calculus or Algebra/Geometry. Other students need tohave completed equivalent course materials to beconsidered for admission. Since Architecture is alimited-enrolment program, candidates must meet a 65percent minimum average in the required courses,however, the final cut-off average at the admissiontime usually does not fall below 75 percent. Thethree-part application process is described below.
PART ONE - The Application Form
The application deadline is February 1.
Current Ontario High School's students: should obtainthe OUAC form #101 from their high school guidancecounsellor and have it submitted to the Centre inGuelph, Ontario.
Other Canadian Applicants (including high schoolstudents in provinces other than Ontario, maturestudents, students currently enrolled in anotheruniversity program, and all other applicants): shoulduse the OUAC form # 105. This can be
obtained by writing:

The portfolio package is essential for yourapplication to the School of Architecture. IF YOU DONOT SUBMIT A PORTFOLIO YOU WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED. The portfolio score will be combined with your academicscores to establish the final assessment of yourapplication.

3. Exercise B ( 5 - A4 cards, boards or mounts)

Admission with Advanced Standing
Applications for admission with advanced standing tothe First or subsequent years of the program will beevaluated on an individual basis. Before applying,students should note that although the School mayaccept previous course work for credit toward theB.A.S. and/or M.Arch. degree, there is no guaranteethat the Canadian Architectural Certification Boardwill do so as credit towards professionalregistration. Advanced standing for academic subjectscompleted at another university or college may beaccepted if the courses are recognized as theequivalent of corresponding courses at Carleton. Fullinformation may be found in the University Calendar.Applications for advanced standing will only beevaluated upon admission to the School.
