I am willing to entertain it. After all this is what Philippino has been doing for decades. Most Philippino in this country came here somehow related to this clause in our immigration system. So why not get a caregiver with the same roots and also help people from our own motherland.
One of the biggest issues hiring caregiver not thru an agency is very simple. It is the same reason you don't buy milk for your children from a local farm just because it is cheaper. It is "How-do-people know-you-truly." Words on Internet carry very little weight when it comes to bring someone into your home 24 hr to take care of your most loved ones.
Also for you, a decent agency vets me as future employer. I will call you brave and admire your courage, if you are willing to travel to a strange country and move in someone's home and live in there 24hr just on one-on-one contacts.
Then again you can argue agency can lie, but so it is that shady corner store selling you often-expired milk. Right? I hope I dont need to spell out what people do in that situation...
In reality, in Canada, People who can hire nanny with a fixed contract usually can risk the agency fee. Because they have a way to vet candidates and also have someone readily available. The fee and higher price is there to protect employer and employee and "buy time."
So unfortunately it is your burden to prove and it is a big one. If you can not be independently vetted, the chance is a lot smaller and you may be asked to accept less than optimal conditions.
Now, your counter-arguments?
